Dracula Owns Doyle Brunson

STRIP #35
Happy Halloween! I like today's strip a lot, although a couple people on the PokerXFactor forums just said they didn't like the punch at the end. I replied by saying, "The vampire kid doesn't understand why any kid would be Doyle Brunson for Halloween, so he punches what he doesn't understand, which is what kids (and adults) often do." I thought it worked, but maybe not.

In case you weren't sure, little Corbin is wearing a pillow under his shirt to simulate Doyle's weight at the time, and those are the pillow's feathers flying out in the last panel. Also, Princess Amazia (Scarlett's costume) is the most popular cartoon for little girls in the world of this comic and Scarlett is the show's biggest fan.

We once again had a great time in the +EV tournament and I wish more of you joined us! DrSickbeat won the $11 bounty on my head and the 11 cent bounty on L8Bloomer's head. Bloomer's feeling a bit down now, according to his latest blog entry, so post a supportive comment if you've got a minute. The winner of yesterday's fifth +EV tourney was Nashwan, who goes by Indian_Skimmer on the PXF forums. I'll be shipping the first issue of the +EV comic book across the pond to him in the UK as soon as I receive the first printing (under two weeks hopefully). I'm looking forward to seeing those comics in print, and make sure you play in the next +EV tourney on Sunday for another chance to win a free book. I'll also have them for sale on the site, though.

Here's a very cool image I just captured off my screen, showing that the last 20 visitors to plusev.net came from 11 different countries. Notice the flags on the right.

Wednesday's upcoming comic starts a storyline that introduces two new main characters! You'll meet the first on Wednesday. She's only about a foot tall, and she's very hairy, but she's incredibly good at poker.

Doyle? More like a pimp.

Let's see now, Doyle won the MAIN EVENT twice but holds 10 bracelets.

So he won in the world series of poker 10 times.

The main event wins came in 1976 & 1977. Super System came in 1979.

So how old is Corbin anyway?

If SS is out and we are supposed to believe he is 5 years old here. (looks more like 7 or 8) Then it is 1985 at the earliest. Which would make Corbin only 26 years old???? WITH a 5 year old child and making 70 grand a year?

And what happened to going to the world series?

Well thought out... moron.

What's your point? This is in like 1982, and I'm not sure how many bracelets Doyle won by then, but all a little kid would know about is the Main Event, really, and he wouldn't even think about it as the "Main Event" -- it would just be the World Series of Poker to him.

"If SS is out and we are supposed to believe he is 5 years old here. (looks more like 7 or 8) Then it is 1985 at the earliest."

Why in the world would that make it 1985 at the earliest??? It would make it 1979 at the earliest, since that's when "Super System" came out, as you just said.

"Which would make Corbin only 26 years old???? WITH a 5 year old child and making 70 grand a year?"

#1 -- Corbin is not 26. I've always thought of him as being 29 and this is 1982 or 1983. #2 -- Why would you be so shocked about him being 26 with a 5-year old child and making $70K a year??? There are tons of 18-year olds making well over $100K a year through online poker and I'm sure many of them already have kids.

"And what happened to going to the world series?"

Huh? Scarlett simply meant the TIGERS are going to the World Series -- big fans use "we" often to refer to their team. And who says they didn't go? They probably did. It's a poker comic, though, not a strip about baseball. Mentioning the Tigers twice was enough in the comics and I'm certainly not going to have another strip about it so soon after the previous one.

"Well thought out... moron."

Everything was thought out perfectly by me, but not by you obviously.

Also, there's no reason for Corbin to not be 7 or 8 here. Scarlett asked about "her age," but this is simply the first thing that popped into his head about being a little kid on Halloween -- doesn't have to be the exact age as Scarlett.

Yeah, Princess Amazia is going to be a recurring thing in the strip. It's the most popular cartoon for little girls in the world of this comic, and Scarlett LOVES Princess Amazia.
